How it all began

Our ministries

For more than three decades, Children for Christ—known in Romania as Copii pentru Cristos (CPC)—has been dedicated to ministering to the nation’s youth. We’ve developed a diverse range of programs designed to meet the unique needs of every child we encounter, regardless of their age or circumstances.

Our comprehensive training courses include everything from camps to in-depth Bible studies. Find out more here.

Our Core Ministry

Casa Harry

Harry, Wilma and Vio had a dream for many years to open a Children’s home in Varfurile.  With Harry being called home to be with the Lord, we thought that it would remain ‘just a dream’.  But the Lord intervened!  He made the dream come true and the home was opened with 4 girls and 4 boys living in ‘Casa Harry’ when it was opened in 2014.  At the moment we have 4 children.

Ministry & Coaching

Training

Children for Christ or, as it is known in Romania, Copii pentru Cristos (CPC), runs a number of training courses as follows (scroll down or click the links to explore).

Summer Camps

In the beautiful village of Varfurile, some 80 miles from Arad, a camp retreat welcomes around 500 children between June to September.  Each week sees groups of around 54 children plus leaders arrive at camp for a week full of teaching, games, activities and fellowship. These camps are held in holiday relaxed atmosphere where the children are exposed to the Gospel and with an opportunity for them to come to know Jesus as their Saviour without any pressure.

Regulars’ training

As the title suggests, this course is run regularly throughout the winter (October through April). It meets the ongoing demands of the mature and experienced teachers of children of both genders and from many denominations. Regular Bible and doctrine ministry is involved to encourage and feed the souls of child evangelists, and to steady their vision. Furthermore, the training involves a programme of providing and explaining a series of lessons covering most of the Bible (over five years) produced by CPC. Bible lesson, Bible memory verses and associated songs including missionary stories of Godly people are provided for those working with children either in Sumday school or Hobe Bible clubs. The attendance varies from 80 — 120, depending on exams, as a number of university students attend. The ages of those who attend range from 17 to 50s and are held in various churches.

In addition, most of those who attend run CPC home Bible clubs throughout the winter in Romania.

Additional training

In addition, most of those who attend run CPC home Bible clubs throughout the winter in Romania.

Five-day club course

This is designed for those who want to evangelise children out in the open air who, as a rule, don’t attend church and have never heard of the Lord Jesus. The course is run once a year in the month just before Easter to take advantage of the school holidays. Again, the teaching material is in the form of a teaching pack and compiled by CPC. The training includes the running of an actual five-day club and is conducted at the CPC Christian centre in Varfurile, Romania.

Summer camp teachers’ training

This is for the leaders and helpers who want to work at the camp held in the CPC Christian centre at Varfurile, Romania.

The residential training is held over a weekend, usually in May, to prepare the workers for service at the summer camp. It covers the teaching subjects, material, discipline, etc., and is well attended, with some 70 — 90 folks attending.

Local Bible Studies

Home Bible Clubs

These are meetings for children from the age of 7 to 14 years, and are conducted in homes near where the children live. They run throughout the winter from October to May, and are held for about one hour each week. The clubs are conducted mostly by those who have received Jesus as Saviour through the camp ministry. These teachers have been through the beginners course on Child Evangelism run by Copii pentru Cristos (CPC) Romania at the Christian Centre, Varfurile, and attend the regular monthly training course held in various churches in Arad throughout the winter.

The teaching material is supplied and composed mostly by CPC in their office in Arad. The advantages of this type of ministry are:

  • It is also a nurturing place for many children to go after professing Christ at the camp. Leaders, as a rule, encourage the children to go to their local church.
  • The home bible clubs are not weather dependent.
It is held in a home very near the homes of the children who attend.
  • Credibility is established easily between parents and leaders.
  • It is a ‘half-way house’ for those who are contacted through the CPC open air ministry (five-day clubs) before entering any type of church.

Shorter camps

Five day clubs

These are evangelical meetings for children from the age of 7 to 14 years and are conducted in the open air near the homes where the children live. The 5DCs (five-day clubs) are held in May and sometimes in parallel with the summer camps (June — September), and their duration is about 45 minutes each day in the same place, for five consecutive days.

The location of these clubs is such that parents can keep an eye on their children whilst the club is in session, and some listen in from their open windows while others bring chairs and sit in for the whole programme!

The clubs are conducted mostly by those who have received Jesus as Saviour through the camp ministry.

These teachers have been through the beginner course on Child Evangelism run by Copii pentru Cristos (CPC) Romania in the Christian Centre, Varfurile,-and the Open Air Evangelistic Course for 5DCs — not forgetting the regular monthly training course held through the winter in Arad.

The 5DC materials are supplied and composed mostly by CPC from their office in Arad. The advantages of this type of ministry are:

  • You contact children in the locality where they live.
  • You meet new children, many of whom have never heard about the One True God and his Son, Jesus, far less attended any type of church.
  • As the club is held for a short period each day, the adverse effect on the location is minimised.

The disadvantages of this type of ministry are:

  • The 5DC is, in a number of cases, weather dependent.
  • The meeting is open to disturbances from two- and four-legged beings!
